What 100 Dundee websites taught us

When we audited 100 Dundee business websites, only 42 mentioned Dundee in their page title, only 18 told Google in its own language that they were a local business, and just 20 had the three basics together: Dundee in the title, a phone number and a DD postcode on the home page. 14 had none of the local signals at all. For most local businesses, that’s where the quickest wins are.

02

The map is its own game

For “near me” searches, the map listing often matters more than the website. The right primary category, accurate hours including holidays, real photos, and reviews that keep coming and get answered all count, and so does a website that confirms everything the profile says. We look after both sides together, because they have to agree.

03

Local pages that aren’t thin

One strong page per service, each clearly saying where you work, beats twenty near-identical pages with the town name swapped. Those cloned pages look templated because they are, and they can drag a whole site down. If you genuinely cover Broughty Ferry, Angus or Fife, we show it with real work, not with copies.

04

Being the answer AI gives

More people now ask an AI assistant for a recommendation. In one week, ChatGPT read the sites we host for someone 1,687 times. It can only recommend you accurately if your facts are stated plainly: what you do, where, your hours, your contact details, in words and in structured data it can read.

Proof, not promises.

Real numbers. We counted.

  • 100Dundee business websites we audited for our benchmark
  • 20of them had the three basic local signals right
  • 18told Google they were a local business
  • 1,687times ChatGPT read the sites we host for someone, in one week

Frequently asked

Straight answers.

How long does local SEO take?

The basics, like titles, contact details, structured data and your profile, can show within weeks. Reviews and local authority build over months. We’ll tell you what to expect for your business and your searches.

Can you guarantee we’ll be in the map results?

No, and be wary of anyone who does. Google decides, partly on how close someone is when they search. We make sure you give Google every reason to include you.

Do you manage our Google Business Profile?

Yes. We set it up or tidy it up, keep the hours, categories and photos right, and help you answer reviews. You stay the owner of the profile.

Do we need a page for every town we cover?

Almost never. One strong page per service that clearly says where you work, backed by real examples from those areas, does far more than a stack of copied town pages.

Can you get us more reviews?

We’ll help you ask the right customers at the right moment and make it easy for them. We never write, buy or incentivise reviews. Fake reviews are illegal under UK consumer law, and Google removes them.

Do you only do local SEO for Dundee?

We’re based in Dundee and plenty of our clients are local, but the same approach works for any town.

How much does local SEO cost?

It depends on how competitive your searches are and how much needs fixing. We start with an audit, then set out the scope and our fees clearly in a proposal.
