About
Good ideas cause trouble. We’ve been causing it since 2016.
Purple Imp is a small Dundee team that designs, builds, markets and automates digital things. Websites, platforms, apps, campaigns, AI tools, and the occasional idea nobody asked for.
Small team. Big ideas.
Ridiculous amount of stuff built.
The imp in charge.
(Allegedly.)
Purple Imp
Est. 2016
Dundee, Scotland
Still causing trouble.
The short version.
-
01
How it started
A Dundee web agency with a stubborn streak.
Barrie started Purple Imp in Dundee in 2016 to build websites that actually did something. The name stuck. So did the attitude.
-
02
Then sport turned up
And kept coming back.
Football clubs, a league, darts players, a golf tour operator, a sportsbook. Match centres that update themselves, club shops that survive kit-launch day, player sites that sell the shirts. We said yes, and we’re still saying it.
-
03
What we are now
A small team that builds whatever the problem needs.
Websites, yes. But also platforms, apps, AI tools, booking systems and the odd invention nobody asked for. We run our own servers too, so the things we build have somewhere good to live.
To be continued. Probably with more mischief.
We’re not a sports agency. We just do a lot of sport.

Numbers. Clarity. Results.
Same team.
More mischief. ☺
The receipts.
Real numbers. We counted.
- 2016 the year Purple Imp started, in Dundee
- 200+ websites running on servers we manage
- 45,000+ published pages on MyFootballFacts
- 2,000+ businesses in the Visit Dundee platform’s database
- 40 projects on our Stuff page, and we’ve lost track of the rest
Evidence
Proof, not promises.
Receipts, with workings.
- 100 Dundee business websites we audited, and only one passed all ten basics Read the benchmark
- 1.8 MB a football club shop’s home page, down from 9.5 MB without a rebuild Read the story
- 1,687 times ChatGPT read the sites we host for someone in one week, for about 150 visits See the data
- 1,478 old addresses carried over on a 1,483-page rebuild, none lost Read the case study
What’s in the toolbox.
The kit we actually use, day in, day out. No buzzword bingo: if it’s on this list, it’s running something real right now.

01
Curious > comfortable
We’d rather ask why than blindly repeat what everybody else does. -
02
Useful > impressive
Cool is good. Working is better. Both is ideal. -
03
Impact > activity
Twenty reports don’t matter if nothing changed. -
04
Build > talk
We like making things. -
05
Evidence > ego
If the data says we’re wrong, we’re wrong. -
06
Humans + AI
Not AI replacing people. Good people using ridiculous technology properly. -
07
No silos
SEO affects development. Development affects UX. UX affects conversion. Marketing affects product. It’s all connected. -
08
More mischief, please.
Good ideas cause trouble. We’re fine with that.
Dundee made us.
A city that built ships, jute, journalism, games and some fairly stubborn people. Purple Imp was built here too.
