01

Start with an audit, not a budget

Before spending more, find out where the current money goes. The mistakes we check for first: ads shown to people who merely showed an interest in Dundee rather than people who are here, extra networks switched on by default, Google’s auto-applied recommendations, broad match without the data to steer it, your own brand name quietly eating budget, and negative keywords set once and forgotten.

02

The click is only half of it

A Google Ads click that lands on a slow page is paid for twice. In our Dundee benchmark, the typical business home page took 5.1 seconds to show its main content on a phone, and 54 of 100 had no tap-to-call link. We look at the page people land on, and at what happens after: we’ve found redirects that quietly dropped the click ID, and forms that looked fine but didn’t send.

03

Automation, with the brakes on

Performance Max and smart bidding can work well, but only when they’re told the truth about what counts as a customer. Without good conversion data they get very good at finding more of the wrong thing. We set them up with real conversions, brand exclusions where needed, and a close eye on where the money actually goes.

04

Measured on enquiries and sales

Conversions count real outcomes, like a submitted enquiry, a booking or a sale, not page views. Consent is set up properly so the figures aren’t silently short. And we look beyond Google: about 1 in 15 search visits to the sites we host came through Bing and the engines it powers, an audience most advertisers ignore.

Proof, not promises.

Real numbers. We counted.

  • 5.1sfor the typical Dundee home page to show its main content on a phone

Frequently asked

Straight answers.

How much should we spend on Google Ads?

Enough to learn something useful, and not a penny more until it’s working. It depends on how competitive your searches are and what a customer is worth to you. We’ll recommend a starting budget after looking at your market.

Google Ads or SEO?

Ads bring visitors the day they’re switched on and stop when you stop paying. SEO takes months and keeps working. Most businesses do best with both, using ads to learn which searches convert while SEO builds.

Should we use Performance Max?

Sometimes. It works best with plenty of good conversion data and clear brand exclusions. Without them it tends to spend on your own brand name and on placements you’d never choose.

Can you audit our existing account?

Yes, and it’s where we usually start. We look at the settings, search terms, tracking and landing pages, and tell you plainly what’s working and what isn’t.

Who should own the Google Ads account?

You should, always. If an agency holds your account in its own name, ask for it to be transferred. Your data and your history belong to your business.

How quickly will we see results?

Clicks start the same day. Knowing which ones become customers takes a few weeks of clean data, which is why tracking comes first.

How much does management cost?

We set out our fees clearly in a proposal, separately from your ad spend, so you always know what’s going to Google and what’s coming to us.
