Security

Unfortunately, websites are prone to hold security risks and if your website isn’t secure, then hackers or criminals can target your website and exploit its weaknesses.

At the very minimum, your website should be HTTPS. Traditionally, HTTPS was only used by eCommerce websites or anyone accepting online payments to ensure sensitive, confidential information, such as payment details, were sent securely (encrypted) to prevent them from being stolen in-transit via malicious hacking exploits.

Improving online security has become increasingly important in recent years and Google has been at the forefront. HTTPS is now one of the more than 600 ranking factors and sites which have not properly implemented HTTPS will generate a warning when the users click from the search engine results pages of Google.

HTTPS gives you more trust, more transparency, improved conversion rates, more traffic and peace of mind that you and your customers are more secure.

Once the basic is undertaken, it’s then about securing your actual website. For example each week, Google blacklists around 20,000 websites for malware and around 50,000 for phishing. If you are serious about your website, then you need to pay attention to WordPress security.
